McCreedy, Cunniff and Notarianni Reach Milestones As Field Hockey Defeats Siena, 6-1
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Megan McCreedy (White River, South Africa) handed out three assists to tie the Quinnipiac single-season and career assist records as the Quinnipiac field hockey team defeated Siena, 6-1, in a Northeast Conference match-up. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the NEC while Siena drops to 0-16 overall and 0-5 in the NEC.
McCreedy's 12th assist came on the Bobcats' final goal of the game, and also tied current assistant coach Jaime Cassesse's single season record set in 2006. McCreedy stands at 24 career assists, tying her with Courtney Ryan '03 for the most in Quinnipiac history, with two regular-season games to play.
With the Bobcats' third goal of regulation, Kaitlyn Notarianni (Clarks Summit, Pa.) became the seventh player in program history to reach the 50-point mark. Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) became the eighth with the first of her two goals in the second half.
"We are very excited for our three seniors and their accomplishments," head coach Becca Main Kohli said. "They have been dynamic players for their four years at Quinnipiac and theses milestones are testament to that."
Maria Malonoski (Phoenixville, Pa.) scored Quinnipiac's first goal of the game in the 15th minute of play. Freshman Danielle Allen (Riverdale, N.J.) scored in the 25th minute, followed by Notarianni's eighth goal of the season forty-four seconds later. Jessica Portal (Avon, Conn.) scored her second goal of the season to give the Bobcats a four-goal lead.
Siena's Kelly Johansmeyey scored in the 33rd minute to cut Quinnipiac's lead to three goals heading into halftime. Cunniff scored her first goal at the 43:24 mark and her second with less than five minutes to play.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 23 when it hosts Bryant at 12 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. Senior Day festivities, honoring Cunniff, Notarianni, McCreedy, Malonoski and Ashley Gradwell.
