Kimberly Cunniff Named Northeast Conference Field Hockey Player Of The Week
HAMDEN, Conn. - Two weeks after she won her first weekly honor from the Northeast Conference, Quinnipiac junior Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) was named the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week, along with Rider's Marlaine Schneider, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Oct. 11.
Cunniff had a hand three of Quinnipiac's seven goals in a pair of wins last week. In a 4-2 win against Brown at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Complex, Cunniff gave the Bobcats the lead twice in the game, scoring the game winner, en route to her second consecutive two-goal performance. On Sunday against Sacred Heart, Cunniff set-up freshmen Jess Rusin for an assist on the Bobcats' third goal in a 3-1 win.
Cunniff is the first Quinnipiac player to earn two NEC Player of the Week honors in the same season since Jenna Grossman accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. She also joins Grossman, Julie Smith, Heather Cady, Sara Mathers and Lisa Scavatto as the only Quinnipiac players to earn two weekly honors in the same year in the program's Division I history.
Quinnipiac is currently 5-6 overall after their first three-game win streak since the 2008 season and are 1-0 in the Northeast Conference after a 3-1 win against Sacred Heart. The Bobcats will host another NEC undefeated team in Rider (8-3, 1-0 NEC) on Friday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn.
