Quinnipiac will open Northeast Conference play on Sunday, Oct. 10
when it travels to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart at 12
p.m. They will then host Rider on Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. and Monmouth
on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
Grand Ole Time
Quinnipiac raised over $1,000 for the Susan G. Komen "Play 4 The
Cure" fund for breast cancer awareness and research with their
fundraiser against Brown on Oct. 4.
Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart is currently 1-8 with losses in three straight games.
The Pioneers have not played since Sept. 26 when they lost, 6-1, to
Lock Haven. In their last three games, the Pioneers have been
outscored 14-4. Their last win came at home on Sept. 12 with a 2-0
blanking of Holy Cross. Karly Duven leads Sacred Heart with four
goals and nine points while Chelseas Carlson and Katie Mazin lead
the team with two assists apiece.
All-Time Against The Pioneers
Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart have met 20 times since their first
game on Sept. 18, 1999 with Quinnipiac holding a slight 11-9
advantage. Quinnipiac won the first five meetings between the two
teams and nine of the first 10 games. Sacred Heart had won seven
straight sicne then before Quinnipiac shut them out last year,
5-0. The two teams have also met four times in the postseason,
splitting the series 2-2. Quinnipiac is 5-2 in six games in Hamden
and 3-5 on Sacred Heart's home field.
Scoring In Bunches
With a pair of goals against Brown and Lafayette, Kim Cuniff
becomes the first player in two seasons, since MacKenzie Liptak
(Schuylerville, N.Y.), to scored two goals in back-to-back games,
and the first player to score in three straight games since Liptak
and Christine Grady (Enfield, Conn.) accomplished the feat in
2008.
Cole Blooded
Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) won her second consecutive start
in goal after holding Brown to two goals over regulation, while
stopping five of seven shots on goal in the game. She improves to
4-3-0 on the season.
Triple Threat
Cuniff , Tina Watkins and Lauren Zimniski have established
themselves as one of the top special teams' tandems in the NEC. The
trio has accounted for four of Quinnipiac's last seven goals, all
of which came off corners.
