Field Hockey To "Play For The Cure" Against Brown On Tuesday, Oct. 5

Play For The Cure
Quinnipiac returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 5 when it hosts Brown
University at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf
Complex in Hamden, Conn. at 4 p.m. The Bobcats will be sponsoring a
fund raiser that day to support Breast Cancer Awareness through the
Susan G. Komen Foundation. Bobcat fans are invited to wear pink
that day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, while parents of
both teams will be holding a bake sale at the field to raise
Quinnipiac will open Northeast Conference play on Sunday, Oct. 10
when it travels to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart at 12
p.m. They will then host Rider on Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. and Monmouth
on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
Brown is currently 2-6 overall, with a win their last time out
against Harvard on Oct. 2. Brown's only other win this season came
against Northeast Conference foe Bryant University, 6-2, on Sept.
19. Abigail Taft leads Brown with six goals and one assist for 13
points. Katie Hyland and Torie Stearns are tied for the team-lead
with three assists. Lauren Kessler has logged a majority of the
minutes in goal for the Bears, posting a 2-4-0 record with a 3.32
goals-against average and a .684 save percentage in over 500
minutes in cage.
All-Time Against Brown
Tuesday's game against the Brown Bears will be the second meeting
all-time between the two teams. They first met on Oct. 16, 1999,
with Brown winning, 4-1, in Providence, R.I.
Another Player Of The Week
Kimberly Cunniff was named the NEC Player of the Week on Monday,
Sept. 27 following a three-goal weekend. Cunniff scored the Bobcats
only goal in a 6-1 loss to Maine on Friday before scoring twice in
a 3-1 win against Lafayette on Sunday.
Tina Watkins (Sweet Valley, Pa.) currently leads Quinnipiac with
five assists for the year. Watkins' total is a personal best.
MacKenzie Liptak's assists on Kristen Engelke's goal against
Lafayette gave her 30 points for her career, making her the 15th
player in Quinnipiac history to reach the mar,.
Lauren Zimniski had an assist on both of Cunniff's against
Lafayetter, her first points of the 2010 season.
Quinnipiac's game against Brown on Tuesday will be the Bobcats
first action since Sunday, Sept. 25, giving them eight days off
between game action.
