The Quinnipiac field
hockey team (2-5) will travel to Orono, Me. on Friday, Sept. 24 to
take on the University of Maine (6-2) in a non-conference match-up
at the University of Maine Field Hockey Complex. The Bobcats will
then return home on Sunday, Sept. 26 to take on Lafayette College
(2-4) at 11 a.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf
Complex. Live statistics will be available.
Scouting Maine
Maine is currently 6-2 with wins in four consecutive games in which
they have outscored their opponent, 19-5. This past week, Jocelyn
Mitchell was named America East and ECAC Field Hockey Player of the
Week while first-year Black Bear Alexa Binnendijk was named America
East Rookie of the Week. Mitchell is tied for the team lead in
goals with seven. Kelly Newton also boasts seven goals on the year,
as well as three assists, for a team-high 17 points. Stephanie
Gardiner leads Maine with six assists, to go along with four goals
for 14 points. In goal, Brittany Fleck is 6-1-0 with a 1.76
goals-against average and a .868 save percentage.
All-Time Against Maine
Friday's game between Quinnipiac and Maine will be the ninth
meeting between the two teams dating back to their first meeting on
Sept. 9, 2000. Quinnipiac is 4-4 against the Black Bears all-time,
including a 2-1 mark at home, a 2-2 mark in Maine and an 0-1 at a
neutral site. Quinnipiac has won three of the last four meetings
between the two teams through the 2008 season.
Scouting Lafayette
Lafayette is currently 2-4 overall, with losses in its last two
games against Penn State, 3-0 on Sept. 15, and Virginia, 4-0 on
Sept. 18. Lafayette is led by Deanna DiCroce with two goals and two
assists for a team-high six points. Meghan Cicchi has scored twice
and assisted on one more for five points. In goal, Kelsey Andersen
has logged every minute of the season in the cage, tallying a 2-4-0
record with a .659 save percentage and a 2.88 goals-against
average.
All-Time Against Lafayette
Quinnipiac and Lafayette have played three times in their programs'
histories with the Leopards taking all three contests. Lafayette
won the first match-up, on Sept. 9, 2007 in Easton, Pa., 2-1 before
knocking off the Bobcats 3-1 in 2008 and 2-0 last season.

The Bobcats found two difficult opponents on their trip last
weekend to Ann Arbor, Mich. Quinnipiac lost to nationally-ranked
No. 18 Albany, 3-0, on Friday, Sept. 17 before losing to Michigan,
who is receiving votes in the national polls, 6-0 on Sunday, Sept.
19.
