Field Hockey Falls To Michigan, 6-0
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Quinnipiac University field hockey team lost to the University of Michigan, 6-0, in a non-conference game played at Ocker Field in Ann Arbor, Mich. The loss drops Quinnipiac to 2-5 while Michigan improves to 4-4.
Quinnipiac starting goalie Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) allowed five goals, while also stopping nine shots on goal. Quinnipiajunior Amanda DeLouise (Cheshire, Conn.) stopped five of six shots on goal in the final 17 minutes of play. Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) and Amanda Danziger (Smithtown, N.Y.) both had a shot in the game.
Three different Wolverines scored in the first half to give Michigan a 3-0 lead at halftime. Alicia Mayer put Michigan on the board with her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Paige Laytos. Laytos dished to Mayer inside the circle who beat Quinnipiac goalie Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) to the right point. It was Laytos first of three assists in the first half. She followed with an assist on Rachael Mack's fifth goal of the year when Laytos carried the ball out in front of the goal and found Mack moving to the right of Lewis. Mack's shot found the opposite corner to give Michigan a two-goal lead. Meredith Way also scored her second goal of the season off a corner with assists to Laytos and Mallory Albini. Way's blast from atop the circle deflected off a Quinnipiac defender and past Lewis.
Michigan added three more goals down the stretch on markers by Albini, Mayer and Ainsley McCallister to solidify the win.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Orono, Me. to take on the University of Maine at 5 p.m. Quinnipiac will then host Lafayette on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Complex.
