Field Hockey Falls To #9 Boston College, 5-1
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University field hockey team lost to nationally-ranked #9 Boston College, 5-1, in the Bobcats' home-opener at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 1-1 overall while Boston College goes to 4-0. Sophomore Nicole Serrante (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored her first career goal, which was also the first goal scored against Boston College this season.
Junior Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) started in goal for the Bobcats, stopping four of BC's six first-half shots on goal before being lifted in favor of classmate Amanda DeLouise (Cheshire, Conn.). DeLouise stopped four-of-six down the stretch.
Paige Norris scored the first of her two goals in the game just over 10 minutes into the game when she handled the ball to the left of Lewis in goal and blasted a shot, stick-side, past the junior goaltender to put BC on top, 1-0. Serrante evened the score at 1-1 when she scored on a penalty shot that found daylight under the stick of the Eagles Kristine Stigas.
Norris scored again, as did Courteney Tavener before the end of the first half of play to send Quinnipiac into halftime trailing 3-1. Emily Anctil scored off a rebound in front of the goal to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead before Emily Kozniuk added her first goal of the year to cap off Boston College's scoring.
"I'm proud of how Amanda [DeLouise] played," Kohli said. "She's been injured, and we were holding her out. I think she showed a lot of athleticism and really played great in the second half for us."
Quinnipiac returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 5 when it takes on Yale University in non-conference game in New Haven, Conn. at 1 p.m.
