HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University field hockey team announced its team awards at the 15th Annual Awards Banquet, held at Laurel View Country Club in Hamden, Conn. on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010. Senior goalie Jenna Grossman (Flanders, N.J.) was given the Tara Thibeault Most Valuable Player Award on an afternoon that also saw the four-year standout honored for All-NEC and All-Region honors. Bobcats' head coach Becca Kohli also recognized the six graduating seniors before announcing the captains for the upcoming season, Katie Van Nostrand, Bonnie Shea and Tina Watkins.
In addition to Grossman, sophomore Ashley Gradwell (Fogelsville, Pa.) was given the Nina Walker Most Improved Player Award; senior Christine Grady (Enfield, Conn.) received the Best Offensive Player award; senior Brandy Longacre (Bethlehem, Pa.) was given the Jill DiSanti Best Defensive Player Award for the second consecutive season and Katie Van Nostrand (Derry, N.H.) was honored with the Zag Team Player Award.
Assistant coach Jaime Cassesse presented the all-conference awards to start the award presentation segment of the program. Megan McCreedy (White River, South Africa), Grossman and Longacre received their All-Northeast Conference First Team awards while senior Bonnie Shea (Walpole, Mass.) received her All-NEC Second Team award. Grossman also received her 2009 NEC Goalkeeper of the Year award, her second straight, in addition to her NEC All-Tournament Team award, which was also given to Grady. Grossman and Longacre also received their NFHCA Mideast Region All-American Second Team honors.
Following the All-Conference honors, assistant coach Cheryl Torino presented the team awards and 2009 NEC Academic Honor Roll Scholar Athlete and 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National All-Academic recognition to 15 Quinnipiac field hockey players. Included in the group that posted a 3.20 GPA were seniors Cassie Adams (Shushan, N.Y.), Lauren Hartnett (Walpole, Mass.), Grossman, Grady, Longacre, She and Van Nostrand. Juniors McCreedy, MacKenzie Liptak (Schuylerville, N.Y.) and Liz Marini were also honored, in addition to sophomore Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Lauren Zimniski (Dallas, Pa.). Freshmen Danielle Czysz (Hillsborough, N.J.), Kristin Engelke (Medford, N.J.) and Nicole Serrante (Bridgewater, N.J.) were also honored. The team was also honored as a 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad and also received the 2009 NEC Team Sportsmanship Award.
