Field Hockey Falls To No. 11 Connecticut, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team fell to No. 11 Connecticut Wednesday night, 6-1. Senior Lauren Hartnett (Walpole, Mass.) scored the Bobcats' lone goal of the game with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, but Quinnipiac's record fell to 2-7 this season with the loss. UConn improves to 10-1 with the win.

UConn's Lauren Aird scored the game's opening goal 3:25 into the contest after making a move around two Bobcat defenders. She assisted on the next Huskies' goal with 16:17 remaining in the first half as Jill Kleebard made it 2-0. UConn scored nearly three minutes later on a tip-in from Lindsey Leck. Leck scored her second with 9:38 left in the first half to give the Huskies a 4-0 lead.

Hartnett got the Bobcats on the board with 5:14 remaining in the first half. Lauren Kuchmak (Smithtown, N.Y.) fired a shot on goal that Hartnett tipped past UConn goalie Andrea Mainiero. The goal was Hartnett's third of the season, while Kuchmak picked up her first point of the season with the assist.

UConn's Melissa Gonzalez added two more goals in the second half to give the Huskies the 6-1 victory. Jenna Grossman (Flanders, N.J.) recorded a season-high 12 saves before giving way to Amanda DeLouise (Cheshire, Conn.) for the final 10:04. Mainiero turned away two Quinnipiac shots to earn the win

The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Oct. 10, when they travel to West Long Branch, N.J., to take on Monmouth University. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
