The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) honored two Quinnipiac baseball players for their performances during the 2014 season. Starting pitcher Thomas Jankins (West Brookfield, Massachusetts) was named the Robin Roberts Best Starting Pitcher, as well as All-NECBL First Team while Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Connecticut) was named the Most Improved Player in the league as well as All-NECBL Second Team.

Quinnipiac University Director of Athletics & Recreation Jack McDonald has announced all-time highs in several academic areas for the 2013-14 season. Quinnipiac’s 414 student-athletes posted a program best 3.293 cumulative grade-point-average, while all but one of Quinnipiac’s 21 varsity teams posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Delaney will assume head coaching duties effective on July 1, 2014. He is currently the Bobcats’ associate head coach under long-time head coach Dan Gooley’s in the latter’s final season.

Katie Vashon was a senior from Hermon, Maine who worked in the Quinnipiac University Sports Information Department for four years before she suddenly passed away after a brief battle with leukemia in 2005. The Quinnipiac University baseball will open its home schedule when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in a four-game, Northeast Conference series on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24. The Bobcats and Knights, originally scheduled to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday, have re-scheduled their series to account for potentially inclement weather. Instead Quinnipiac will play a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 23, followed by a seven-inning game approximately 30 minutes following the completion of the first game. They will then play a seven-inning game, followed by a nine-inning game, on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m.

The Quinnipiac baseball team split a Northeast Conference doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson, losing the first game 8-4 bouncing back with an 11-4 victory in the second half of the twin bill. The Bobcats go to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in the NEC while Fairleigh Dickinson goes to 5-11-1 overall and 2-4 in league play. Quinnipiac University junior Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.) was named to the Division I team that will face a team comprised of Division II and III players from New England in the 37th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game on Thursday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. Nisson is the first Quinnipiac player selected to play in the game since Andy Mayer played in the 2007 game at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass.
