The Quinnipiac University baseball team defeated Southern Connecticut, 4-2, to advance to the City Series Championship Game. The Bobcats will face New Haven, who defeated Yale, 2-0, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Yale Field in New Haven, Conn.
The Bobcats benefitted from solid pitching and some timely hitting in its win against SCSU. Derek Lamacchia (White Stone, N.Y.) gave up two runs over six innings while scattering six hits and striking out five. Nick Fabrizio (Peabody, Mass.) held the Owls scoreless over the final three innings, scattering three hits, for the save.
At the plate, Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pa.) was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) scored two runs for the Bobcats.
Yale and Southern Connecticut will play in the City Series consolation game at 12 p.m., followed by the Bobcats and Chargers at 3:30 p.m. The Bobcats last won the City Series in 2008.
