Quinnipiac University baseball rising sophomore Matthew Batten (Shelton, Conn.) was play in the third annual Futures Collegiate Baseball League All Star Game on Thursday, July 24 at 7:05 p.m. at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass.
Batten is currently playing for the Torrington (Conn.) Titans of the FCBL. The FCBL is comprised of NCAA student-athletes from New England universities in good academic standing that have completed one year of athletic eligibilty, and also have at least one year of eligibility remaining.
For the Titans, Batten is currently hitting .308 (40-130) in 38 games played. He has also driven in 19 runs and scored 16 more.
Batten recently completed a brilliant first season at Quinnipiac that culminated in the first-year Bobcat earning Metro Atlantic Athetic Conference (MAAC) All-Tournament honors. Batten batted 6-for-11 in three games in the MAAC tournamnet. For the year, Batten batted .260 (52-200) while his 52 hits were second in the Bobcats' line-up. Batten also collected nine doubles and scored 27 runs while driving in 19 more. In addition, he became just the second freshman in Quinnipiac's Division I history to collect 50 hits in his first season.
