SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn enters Wednesday's game with a record of 20-19 overall and 5-6 in American Athletic Conference play. Bobby Melley (.380 (54-142, three homers, 11 doubles, 23 RS, and 31 RBI) and Blake Davey (.373 (50-134), six doubles, nine homers, 27 RBI, and 36 RS) lead the way offensively for the Huskies. Patrick Ruotolo (1-3, 1.42 ERA, and 37 SO in 31 2/3 innings pitched) and Andrew Zapata (2-1, 1.51 ERA, and 25 SO in 41 2/3 innings pitched) lead the pitching staff. The UConn baseball team erased an early deficit to top Massachusetts by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Davey was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored while Melley was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. UConn won back-to-back games this week - topping CCSU, 9-1, on Monday before downing UMass.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST HARTFORD
Quinnipiac saw a nine-game win streak come to an end with a 5-3 loss to Hartford at home on Tuesday, Apr. 22. Quinnipiac sophomore Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) led the Bobcats with three hits while senior Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) had his third straight multiple-hit day, going 2-for-3 against the Hawks. Freshman Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Conn.) was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) also collected two hits and also drove in his team-leading 27th run of the season. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Conn.) and Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) both drove in runs for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats pitching staff has been dominant on this winning streak, with the starters posting a 6-0 record. Quinnipiac also features a 1.66 earned-run-average while opponents have hit just .202 against the Bobcats. No opponent has scored more than four runs during the nine game winning streak.
BOBCATS BREAK OUT
Against Saint Peter's this past weekend, nine different Bobcats hit above .300 for the series, led by Mike Blumenthal's .545 (6-11) average.
This past weekend, Mike Blumenthal hit a team-high .545 (6-11), while leading the team in hits (6), doubles (2) and RBI (4). Blumenthal was 1-for-4 with a run scored in the first game of the series, before following with a 3-for-3 game in the second game of Quinnipiac's doubleheader against Saint Peter's. In that game, a 5-2 win, Blumenthal collected a hit and a RBI in three straight plate appearances. He followed with a 2-for-4 day with a RBI-double and a run scored in the third game of the Bobctas' three-game series. For the year, Blumenthal is hitting .297 (27-91) with six doubles, 11 RBI and eight runs scored.
Against Hartford on Tuesday, Rob Pescitelli belted his team-leading fifth triple of the season. Pescitelli has been on a tear as of late, batting .500 (3-6) in the Bobcats' series against Saint Peter's. It was just a snapshot into the outfielder's big weekend as he also walked four times, and was hit by a pitch twice, reaching base nine times in 12 at-bats against the Peacocks for a .750 on-base percentage for the weekend. One of his three hits left the yard as well for his second round-tripper of the season. Pescitelli also accounted for a team-high six runs in a series in which Quinnipiac scored 23 total runs.
Sophomore Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) has been a major table setter for Quinnipiac this season, batting .368 (15-40) when leading off an inning. Against Hartford, Palladino was 3-for-4 for his second career three-hit day.
With runners in scoring position, Vincent Guglietti boasts a team-best .432 (20-45) average, while leading the team with 27 RBI. Guglietti also leads the team with a .468 (22-47) average when batting with two outs while 15 of his 27 RBI have come with two outs in the inning.
Senior closer Gary Binkiewicz tied his own single-season save record with his sixth of the year in the Bobcats' first game of their three-game set against St. Peter's. He came back with his record-breaking seventh of the season in the final game of the series – recording the final four outs in Quinnipiac's 9-3 win against the Peacocks on Sunday. Binkiewicz has seven saves and a 0.96 ERA in nine appearances. Quinnipiac's career leader in saves, with 13 to date, has allowed one earned run over 9 1/3 innings while scattering six hits and striking out five. Opposing hitters are now hitting .176 for the year.
First-year Bobcat Matthew Batten hit .385 (5-13) in Quinnipiac's three-game sweep of Saint Peter's, with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. In the first game of the Bobcats' series against the Peacocks, Batten record his third three-hit outing of the season, going 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored. He followed with a hit in each successive game. More impressive was his defense – which proved errorless in 21 opportunities at short including 14 assists. The highlight of the weekend was Batten chasing down a ground ball deep in the hole by SPU's Chris Hugg and throwing out the Peacock's first baseman by a step on a throw from shallow left field off his back leg.
Junior Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn) had another big weekend going 5-for-12 with two homers and four RBI. Guglietti is leading the team in batting average (.353), doubles (8), homers (4), runs scored (23), RBI (27), and slugging (.538). GETTING BACK ON TRACKNick Fabrizio will get the start against UCONN on Wednesday. Fabrizio the Bobcats most experienced pitcher will look to build off his last outing against Dartmouth in which he picked up the win in relief throwing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Quinnipiac will travel to Radford, VA this weekend to take on Radford in a three-game non-conference series starting on Friday April 25th at 3:00 PM. The second game will be played on Saturday April 26th at 1:00 PM. The Series will conclude on Sunday April 27th at 1:00 PM.
