Bronx, N.Y.- The Quinnipiac University baseball team dropped the third game of its three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series to Manhattan, 9-0, at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The loss drops Quinnipiac to 4-14 overall and 2-1 in MAAC play. Manhattan improves to 3-15 and 1-2 in MAAC play with the win.
Manhattan used a four-run third inning to jump out to an early lead and never looked back. The Jaspers tacked on a run in the fifth, three more in the sixth and their ninth run of the game in the seventh inning.
Quinnipiac starter Nick Fabrizio (Peabody, Mass) tossed 4 2/3 innings and gave up five earned runs while striking out three and was saddled with his first loss of the season. Freshman Brandon Shileikis (North Dighton, Mass) came in relief after Fabrizio and tossed two innings, yielding four runs while striking out one. Senior Matt DeRosa (Monroe, Conn) finished off the game for the Bobcats with 2 1/3 scoreless innings while scattering two hits and striking out two.
Quinnipiac will look to bounce back when it travels to New Britain, Conn. to take on Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at 3 p.m.
