Baseball To Face No. 28 Tennessee For Three-Game Series In Knoxville This Weekend

The Quinnipiac baseball team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn to take on the University of Tennessee in a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium starting Friday the 28th and wrapping up Sunday March 1st.

This weekend's trip to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on the Vols will be the first trip to UT for the Quinnipiac baseball program.

Tennessee hosts Quinnipiac this record with a record of 7-0 through the first month of the season. The Vols are currently ranked #28 in the Baseball America NCAA Division I poll. The Vols currently boast six every-day players with a batting average of .346 or higher. David Houser currently leads UT in average (.412) and is tied with Scott Price for the RBI lead with eight. Price checks in at .391 (9-23) with a team-high nine runs scored as well as three doubles and one of Tennesse's two home runs so far this year. Nick Senzel is hitting at a .381 (8-21) clip while also leading the team in slugging percentage (.667) and on-base percentage (.519). Christian Stewart is hitting .346 (9-26) with six of his nine hits going for extra bases with four doubles and two triples. Stewart has also driving in eight runs, while scoring seven more.   

Quinnipiac sophomore Ryan Nelson, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., will be playing in his hometown when the Bobcats and Vols face-off. Ryan's mother, Jane, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of Friday's game.

On Friday, Feb. 28, Quinnipiac freshman Thomas Jankins (0-1, 11.50) will face Tennessee RHP Nick Williams (2-0, 0.82). On Saturday, sophomore southpaw Justin Thomas (0-0, 0.00) will face UT's Andrew Lee (2-0, 2.31) followed by a match-up between Quinnipiac RHP Gregory Egan (0-1, 17.18) and Vols right-handed hurler Kyle Serrano (1-0, 4.70).

The Bobcats were roughed up on the mound allowing 24 runs over the course of three games.  Justin Thomas led the way on the hill and will look to duplicate what he did in his last start against Norfolk State going a strong six innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out four in picking up a no-decision.

Against Villanova in the Bobcats' season opener, Mike Palladino led off the game with a single on the first pitch that he saw for the season. The last player to record a hit in the team's first at-bat of the year was Wilson Matos against the University of Richmond on Mar. 6, 2004.
