The Quinnipiac University baseball team was defeated by Dartmouth, 12-0, in a non-conference match-up at Red Rolfe Stadium in Hanover, N.H. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 10-25 on the year while Dartmouth improves to 27-7.
Quinnipiac sophomore Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double in the fifth inning. Freshman Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tenn.), Rob Piscitelli (Bayshore, N.Y.) and Steffen Herter (Amherst, Mass.) all collected hits while Dale Long (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Forrest Dwyer (Wakefield, R.I.) also contributed to the Bobcats' six hits for the day.
Quinnipiac starter Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) gave up a lead-off double in the first that resulted in a run for Dartmouth before settling in and cruising through four innings. After Dartmouth's lead-off double, Castodio retired the next three batters in order. An error early on a ball hit to short to start the second was the only runner to reach base in the inning. In the fourth, Castodio shook off a pair of singles to start the inning, pitching out of a bases loaded jam to escape the frame unscathed. It was the fifth inning that cursed Castodio's day as the senior hurler was tagged for six runs in the inning.
Matt DeRosa (Monroe, Conn.) came on in relief of Castodio and gave up two runs on three hits over 1 1/3. Freshman Justin Thomas (Enfield, Conn.) pitched 2/3 of an inning, with the lone hit he gave up resulting in a Big Green run. Kevin Sustad (Merrick, N.Y.) pitched the Bobcats out of the seventh before Kyle Musco (Walpole, Mass.) pitched the eighth.
Quinnipiac returns to Northeast Conference play this weekend when it hosts Wagner for a four-game set on Apr. 26-28 at Quinnipiac Baseball Field.
