The Quinnipiac baseball team will travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to take on Mount St. Mary's in a four-game Northeast Conference series on Mar. 28-30. The Bobcats will play a nine-inning game on Thursday, Mar. 28 at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 29 at 1 p.m. and a final single game on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 1 p.m. Quinnipiac is currently 7-8 overall and 2-2 in NEC play while Mount is 4-14 and 0-4 in league action.

Scouting The Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers
The Mount opened Northeast Conference play by dropping all four games at Bryant this past weekend.  The Mount offense was held in check by the Bulldogs, scoring six runs in the four games while posting a .186 average.  Jay Knight hit .375 (6-for-16) over the weekend while Tom Healy hit .364 (4-for-11) with a home run.  On the mound, the Mount allowed 26 runs, finishing with a 6.43 ERA.  For the season, Healy leads the Mountaineers with a .359 average and a .423 on-base percentage.  Andrew Clow is the only other regular hitting over .300 with a .311 average.  Sam Nott paces the squad with five home runs and 19 RBI.  On the mound, Alain Girman is the top pitcher with a 3.26 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 19.1 innings of work(Courtesy of Mountathletics.com)

Justin Thomas Named NEC Baseball Rookie of the Week
Justin Thomas picked up his first career win with a brilliant seven-inning outing in a 5-1 win against Monmouth on Sunday, Mar. 24. Thomas held the Hawks to one run on six hits while striking out four over seven innings. Thomas gave up a double in the first inning, which resulted in the only runner reaching third base over the first five innings. Thomas didn't allow a hit to the next 16 batters faced, with two batters that were hit by a pitch and one that walked as the only baserunners for Monmouth over the games first five innings. Thomas was touched for a run in the sixth inning, but was able to pitch out of a one-out jam with runners on the corners before exiting the game. To date, Thomas is 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with one run allowed over 12 innings pitched.

All-Time Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Honorees
Thomas is the 10th Quinnipiac student-athlete to earn NEC Baseball Rookie of the Week honors as he joins teammate Steffen Herter as Quinnipiac becomes the first team to have two different players earn the award this season. In addition, it is the first time since 2004 that two Quinnipiac players earned the weekly honor in the same season.

Keep It On The DL
Despite taking two losses in his first four starts, senior Derek Lamacchia (White Stone, N.Y.)has yet to give up more than one earned run in an outing. Lamacchia leads the team in most pitching categories including ERA (0.58), innings pitched (31.0), strikeouts (22)and opposing team's batting average (.146).

Big Weekend For The Captain
In a week that saw Quinnipiac open its Northeast Conference schedule at 2-2 against Monmouth, Migani led Quinnipiac with a .357 average (5-14) while also leading the team in RBI (2), runs scored (2) and extra-base hits (1), as well as slugging percentage (.429)and on-base percentage (.429) and stolen bases (2-2). Additionally, he was the only Quinnipiac batter to hit safely in all four games. On Saturday, Migani was 2-for-4 in the in the first game before going 1-for-4 with the game-winning RBI in a 3-2, extra-innings win. On Sunday, Migani was 1-for-3 with the Bobcats' lone run in a 5-1 loss before going 1-for-3 with a RBI and run scored in a 5-1 win in the nightcap.

Give Him A Minute!
For the year, Migani is hitting .275 (14-51)while leading the team in doubles (3), runs (9)and walks (5). Migani opened the year just 2-for-15 over the season's first four games but has since put together a 10-game hitting streak in which he is hitting a team-best .355 (11-31)with seven runs scored and ranking among the top three Quinnipiac hitters in slugging percentage (.417) and on-base percentage (.423).

The Don
Sophomore Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) also had a solid weekend for the Bobcats, matching Migani's output at the plate, as he hit .357 (5-14). For the year, Donaghue leads Quinnipiac in batting average (.327, 18-55), hits (18), on-base percentage (.356) and slugging percentage (.382). 

The Game Shortener
Reliever Gary Binkiewicz (Scotch Plains, N.J.) has emerged as the Bobcats top reliever. The junior, who walked-on to the Bobcats' squad for the first time this season, is 3-for-3 in save opportunites and is also 1-0 after a come-from-behind win against Monmouth last weekend. Binkiewicz has also posted a 0.85 ERA in 11 innings across five appearances. Binkiewicz also has nine strikeouts in 11 innings. 

Steffen Herter Named NEC Baseball Rookie of the Week
Quinnipiac freshman Steffen Herter (Amherst, Mass.) was named the Northeast Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Mar. 4, 2013. 
Herter had a break-out weekend, helping the Bobcats to a three-game, season-opening sweep of George Washington in Arlington, Va. Herter batted .400 (4-10) with two RBI, one run scored and four stolen bases. Despite and 0-for-3 debut in his first career game on Friday, Mar. 1, Herter drew a walk and managed to score a run in the Bobcats' 8-3 season-opening win. The next day, Herter was 3-for-4 with a RBI and two stolen bases. In the final game of the weekend, Herter singled and stole a base in the seventh inning of the series finale before delivering in the deciding ninth frame.  Herter's RBI sac fly capped a three-run ninth for Quinnipiac, which trailed 2-1 after eight, and plated what held up as the game-winning run.
