The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost a non-conference match-up at Fairfield, 10-4. The Bobcats drop to 7-8 overall while Fairfield improves to 7-11.
Quinnipiac captain Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) extended his team-best hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the fourth inning while Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) recorded his fifth multiple-hit game with a 2-for-5 day. Guglietti leads the team with five multiple-hit outings. Dale Long (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Steffen Herter (Amherst, Mass.) all drove in runs for the Bobcats.
On the mound, Ryan Walsh (Stamford, Conn.) took the loss after giving up three runs in two innings of work, despite only giving up one hit. Freshman Kyle Musco (Walpole, Mass.) gave up five runs - three earned - in an inning of work before Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Kevin Sustad (Merrick, N.Y.) stopped the bleeding. Castodio pitched a scoreless, and hitless, fourth while Sustad gave up one hit over two innings of work while keeping the Stags off the board. Matt DeRosa (Monroe, Conn.) gave up two runs before Matt Siciliano (Ardmore, Pa.) and Gary Binkiewicz (Scotch Plains, N.J.) pitched back-to-back scoreless innings to end the game.
Fairfield scored early, playing a run in the first inning before scoring twice in the second inning. The Stags' bats erupted in the third for five runs to give Fairfield an 8-0 lead heading into the fourth.
Quinnipiac got on the board in the fourth inning when Migani led off the inning with a single to short on the first pitch of his at-bat. Nic Civale (East Windsor, Conn.) drew a walk to move Migani into scoring position before Tom Donovan (Marshfield, Mass.) walked to load the bases. Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) then singled through the right side of the infield to score Migani before Steffen Herter (Amherst, Mass. ) drove in Civale with a single to right. Herter's single ended Fairfield starter Aaron Howell's day after 3 1/3 innings. Ruditys, facing Stags' reliever Christian Fox, reached on a fielder's choice after hitting a ground ball to short that scored Donovan to move Quinnipiac to within five runs, 8-3.
After Fairfield put two more across in the seventh, Quinnipiac responded with a run in the top of the ninth. Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) stroked a two-out double before Long's pinch-hit single brough Palladino around with the Bobcats' fourth run.
