The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Akron, 9-4 in the final game of the Chanticleer Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. With the loss, Quinnipiac goes to 5-5 on the year.

Freshman Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and junior Tom Donovan (Marshfield, Mass.) hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning for the Bobcats, while Bryan Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pa.) and Vin Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) both drove in runs in the Bobcats' loss. Donovan was 2-for-4 for the day, as was Guglietti and Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.).

Guglietti drove in Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) with a triple down the right field line to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Akron took the lead in the bottom of thing, driving in a pair of runs. Akron tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. In the top of the fifth, Donaghue led off with a double to right center before moving to third on a single by Donovan. Ruditys then doubled down the line to score Donaghue, pulling Quinnipiac within three runs, 5-2.

Akron pushed runs across in the next three innings, with a pair in the sixth, following by runs in the seventh and eighth. In the ninth, Palladino came on to pinch hit for Mike Blumenthal with two outs.
