Northeast Conference Baseball Release (May 1, 2012)
Quinnipiac freshman Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) has been named the Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, May 1.
Guglietti had a monster week for the Bobcats, posting a team-high .562 (9-16) average with a double, triple, three RBI and three runs scored, while also slugging .750 and posting a .632 on-base percentage. Guglietti started the week with a 1-for-2 showing that included a run scored in a non-conference match-up against Dartmouth. He then went 8-for-14 (.571) in a four-game Northeast Conference series against in-state rival Sacred Heart.
Guglietti was 1-for-3 with a RBI-double in the first game, while also drawing a walk. In the second game of the series, he was 2-for-2 with another walk. In the third game of the series, Guglietti was 1-for-4 and drove in Kyle Nisson with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning before Sacred Heart stormed back to plate two in the bottom half of the inning. In the fourth game of the series, another back-and-forth thriller at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn., Guglietti was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI-triple. Guglietti's first run tied the game in the eighth inning before his triple down the right field line scored Zak Palmer with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning.
For the year, Guglietti is hitting .277 (41-148)with a team-high 20 RBI while also scoring 19 runs. Against NEC teams, Guglietti is hitting .314 (33-105) with 17 RBI.
Guglietti is the first Bobcat to be honored with the NEC Rookie of the Week award since Alex Russow was recognized on April 5, 2010, and the eighth since Quinnipiac joined the NEC in 1998.
