Quinnipiac baseball freshman Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) and Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) are currently starring for the Shelter Island Bucks of the Atlantic Coast Baseball League. Also playing for Shelter Island is Quinnipiac sophomore Chris Caldari (Plainview, N.J.).
Guglietti currently leads the Bucks in average (.421), hits (8) and doubles (3) while Donaghue checks in at .333 (4-14) with a team-leading four RBI. Donaghue delivered a walk-off single against in a 9-8 win against Westhampton on June 10.
Guglietti is coming off an All-Northeast Conference Second Team selection in 2011. The first-year Bobcat turned in a solid all-around freshman campaign, batting .276 (43-156) with a team-high 22 RBI and 21 runs scored. Guglietti also hit .310 (35-113) in NEC play, with a .378 on-base percentage, .363 slugging percentage, 19 RBI and 17 runs scored. Guglietti was also honored as the NEC Co-Rookie of the Week on May 1, 2012 following a four-game weekend series that saw the first-year DH hit .562 (9-16), including an 8-for-14 (.571) clip against Sacred Heart in a four-game set.
Donaghue, a slick-fielding shortstop with the Bobcats, impressed in his first season at Quinnipiac. Donaghue led the team in home runs (2), RBI (22), walks (25) while ranking among the top three hitters in the Bobcats line-up in runs scored (23), doubles (7) and on-base percentage (.342).
