The Quinnipiac baseball team will host the University of Connecticut on Monday, April 9 and the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, April 10 at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. Both games are set for a 3 p.m. start.

Going For 500
With an 11-4 win against Northeast Conference opponent Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, March 23, Quinnipiac baseball head coach Dan "Skip" Gooley won his 499th career game, and 398th at Quinnipiac. Gooley also won 101 games as the head coach at University of Hartford. Gooley will have a chance to reach the 500-win and 400-win marks when the Bobcats face UConn on Monday.
Former director of athletics and men's basketball head coach Burt Kahn (459) and current men's and women's tennis head coach Mike Quitko (474) are the only other coaches in Quinnipiac history to reach 400 victories, while Gooley's 499 wins are the most career wins for any Quinnipiac coach. Gooley is currently in his 27th year coaching and 22nd at Quinnipiac. Gooley also won 101 games as University of Hartford's head baseball coach from 1988-1992.

Scouting The Connecticut Huskies
Connecticut enters Monday's non-conference match-up with a record of 18-13 overall, including an 8-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Huskies are coming off a three-game sweep at Pitt this weekend and have won 12 of its last 14 games. LJ Mazzilli leads the Huskies in batting average (.358), hits (43), home runs (7), RBI (27), doubles (12), runs scored (28) and slugging percentage (.667). Ryan Fuller checks in at .333 (38-114) with 10 doubles, 19 runs scored and 19 RBI while Billy Ferriter is hitting .330 (37-112) with a home run, 16 RBI and 25 runs scored. Tim Martin is also above the .300 mark at .314 (22-70) with two homers and 10 RBI.
Scouting The Rhode Island Rams
Rhode Island will visit Hamden on Tuesday, April 10 with a record of 16-14 overall, including wins in eight of their last 10 games. Jeff Roy leads the Rams in batting average (.322), hits (37) and runs scored (29). Milan Adams is hitting at a .311 (28-90) clip with a home run and 15 RBI while Jeff Cammans leads URI in doubles (13) and RBI (24), while also hitting .288 (34-118) with 17 runs scored.
For the week, senior co-captain Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) batted a team-high .400 (6-15) with a RBI while also slugging .400 and posting a .400 on-base percentage. In the first game of the Bobcats' four-game series against Monmouth, Nisson was 3-for-5 before following that performance with a 1-for-3 and 2-for-3 showing in a pair of seven-inning games on April 6, extending his team-leading hit streak to six games, which ended with an 0-for-4 day on April 7. For the year, Nisson is hitting a team-high .293 (29-99) with three doubles, seven RBI and eight runs scored, while striking out just four times this season. Behind the dish, he has committed just two errors in 134 chances for a .985 fielding percentage. Nisson has also thrown-out six runners through 27 games.
Dominant Out Of The 'Pen
Senior Matthew Siciliano (Ardmore, Pa./St. Mary's College of Maryland) worked six innings in relief on Saturday, April 7 against Monmouth, surrendering one unearned run on five hits while striking out two. For the year, Siciliano has allowed just five runs – four earned – on 14 hits while striking out 13 in 17 innings in relief while posting a 2.12 earned-run-average.
Freshman Matthew Lorenzetti (Marlboro, N.J.) pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief on April 5 against Monmouth, holding the Hawks scoreless on two hits while striking out three. Lorenzetti has allowed just one earned run in his last four appearances. In 2 2/3 innings of work against Northeast Conference competition, Lorenzetti has yet to allow an earned run while striking out four.
Can't See The Forrest...
Forrest Dwyer (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) batted .385 (5-13) against Monmouth this weekend, including a two-RBI double. Dwyer, a junior walk-on, had struggled early on, batting just .119 (7-59) over his first 19 games played. In his last eight, all against NEC competition, Dwyer is batting .423 (11-26) while ranking second on the roster in several categories, including runs batted in (4), doubles (1), slugging percentage (.462) and on-base percentage (.465).
Next Up For The Bobcats
Following Monday's game against UConn, and Tuesday's game against URI, the Bobcats will host Mount St. Mary's for a four-game, Northeast Conference series on April 13-15.
