Baseball Dealt 3-0 Loss At Army
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Army, 3-0, in a non-conference match-up at Doubleday Field in West Point, N.Y. Quinnipiac drops to 2-12 on the season with the loss while Army improves to 11-6.
Senior Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.) got the afternoon off from his normal catching duties, as the Bobcats prepare to host Fairleigh Dickinson this weekend, instead serving as the team's designated hitter. Nisson was 1-for-4, extending his hit streak to four games. The fourth-year Bobcat got-out-of-the-gate slow to start his final season at Quinnipiac, but has turned it on as of late. Nisson now has hit safely in eight of his last 14 at-bats (.571).
Nic Civale (East Windsor, Conn.) also had a hit in his third start of the year. Civale has recorded a hit in five of his last 10 at-bats. Jesse Ullrich (Orange, Conn.) and Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pa.) also recorded hits in the loss.
Junior Kevin O'Connell (Glastonbury, Conn.) took the hard-luck loss in his first career start, after a solid performance that saw the third-year Bobcat scatterthree hits over four innings pitched. O'Connell was touched for one run, while striking out three. O'Connell put runners on base in each inning that he worked, but was able to pitch out of each jam, but one. In the third, Army manufactured a run when Alex Jensen singled to lead off the inning, before back-to-back sacrifice bunts moved Jensen to third. Daniel Cortes delivered with a two-out RBI single to left field to put the Black Knights out in front, 1-0.
Freshman Matthew Lorenzetti (Marlboro, N.J.) came on in relief in the fifth inning. Lorenzetti gave up two runs, both unearned, on one hit and two errors. Ryan Walsh (Stamford, Conn.) came on to pitch the sixth and seventh innings, turning in a solid performance in his first appearance of the season. Walsh held Army scoreless, giving up one hit, while not allowing a runner past first base. Kevin Adler (Marietta, Ga.) pitched a perfect eighth.
