HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University baseball team bounced back from being swept by Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 2 and losing the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 3 with a 6-5 walk-off win on a RBI-double by Ray Buckley (Fairfield, Conn.)in the fourth and final game of Quinnipiac's four-game set against Sacred Heart. Quinnipiac goes to 8-4 in the Northeast Conference and 12-10 overall while Sacred Heart goes to 5-7 in NEC play and 12-13 overall.
Buckley, Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) and Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) all drove in two runs in the doubleheader, with Migani's two RBI's coming on a home run in the second game. Poletsky collected four hits on the afternoon, including a pair of doubles. Migani and Ben Farina (Wateford, Conn.) each had three hits while Migani, Mike Bartlett (Milford, Conn.) and Mickey Amanti (Waterford, Conn.) led the Bobcats with two runs apiece.
In the first game, a 14-2 loss to the Pioneers, George Dummar (Branford, Conn.) took the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits over four innings worked. Matthew Siciliano (Ardmore, Pa.) just up two runs in an inning pitched while Ryan Walsh (Stamford, Conn.) was tagged for five runs in two innings pitched.
In the second game, Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) picked up the win after working the final three innings in relief. Castodio allowed just three batters to reach base while holding SHU hitless. Anthony Cinelli (Wall, N.J.) gave up five runs - four earned - on 10 hits in six innings pitched.
Migani's two-run homer came in the fifth inning with Sacred Heart leading 5-2. It was Migani's team-leading second home run of the season and moved the Bobcats within a run of the Pioneers. In the seventh inning, Poletsky hammered a pitch through the left side of the infield to drive Amanti in with the tying run. In the Bobcats' ninth, Bartlett singled up the middle with one out before moving to second when Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) walked. Buckley then clubbed a two-strike pitch from Sacred Heart's Liam Rafferty over the head of Steve Tedesco to drive Bartlett in the winning run.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Tuesday, April 5 when it travels to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University at 3 p.m. The Bobcats then host Dartmouth on Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m .at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field. Quinnipiac closes out the week with a four-game series at home against Monmouth on Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10.
