Baseball Faces Richmond In Final Game of Three-Game Match-Up
The
Quinnipiac University baseball team, off to its best start in the
program's Division I history with four wins in their first five
games, will face the University of Richmond on Sunday, March 13 at
1 p.m. at Pitt Field in Richmond, Va. The game is the final of a
three-game set in which Quinnipiac has won the first two games, 6-5
in 10 Innings and 6-4.
- Senior outfielder
Mike Bartlett (Milford, Conn.) has been on a tear against the
Spiders, hitting .444 (4-9) in the series' first two games with two
RBI and two runs scored - both team-highs. Bartlett is also
slugging a team-best .556.
- Freshman Zak
Palmer (Mahwah, N.J.) has reached base safely in all four plate
appearances, going 3-for-3 with two RBI while also drawing a
walk.
- Derek Lamacchia
(Whitestone, N.Y.) picked up the win yesterday to improve to 1-1 on
the season after holding Richmond to one run on four hits over six
innings pitched.
- Ryan Walsh
(Stamford, Conn.) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings in relief for his
second save of the season.
- Anthony Cinelli
(Wall, N.J.) also came on in relief on Friday and picked up the win
to improve to 2-0 on the season.
- Ben Farina's
(Waterford, Conn.) two hits for the weekend give him 190 for his
career - leaving him 10 hits shy of becoming the seventh player in
Quinnipiac history to reach 200 career hits.
- In
eight relief appearances this year, the Quinnipiac bullpen has held
the opposition to five earned runs over 15 innings pitched while
allowing just nine hits and striking out 11. Andrew Rinaldi (East
Rockaway, N.Y.) and Walsh have combined to spin 6 2/3 innings so
far, record three saves between the two of them while holding
opponents to no earned runs and striking out nine.
