Baseball Falls To Wagner, 10-2

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Wagner scored in six of the eight innings in which they came to bat as the Seahawks defeated the Quinnipiac baseball team, 10-2, Saturday afternoon at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. With the loss, the Bobcats conclude their season at 14-39 (13-19 NEC), while the Seahawks move to 25-29 (17-15 NEC).

Seniors Ryan Ullrich (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Brian Monack (Branford, Conn.) each had a hit and a run scored in their final games as Bobcats, while Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) and Tom Donovan (Marshfield, Mass.) also had base hits. Migani provided an RBI for Quinnipiac.

Senior Todd DeFrancesco (North Haven, Conn.) took the loss in his final start, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 14 hits and three walks. He struck out one. Dakota Dvorak got the win, pitching one clean inning of relief after starter Chris Rautenstrauch went four innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks.

The Seahawks struck first, scoring three times in the second inning and never trailed. Four hits in the second led to three runs before the Bobcats answered with two in the top of the third. Donovan led off the inning with a single, before the Seahawks recorded two outs. But an Ullrich single followed by a Monack walk and a Migani infield single resulted in two runs. Wagner shortstop Brian Martutartus made a diving stop of Migani's grounder in the hole and his only chance was the force play at third. But his throw went wide, allowing Ullrich to score.

The Seahawks methodically added to their lead, scoring once each in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth, before striking for three in the seventh.
