Mike Oskandy (Bethel, Conn.) went the distance on the mound for the Bobcats, allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits and four walks, while striking out eight. Matt Watson took the win for Wagner, allowing three runs, two earned, while scattering nine hits and four walks over eight innings. The win tied Watson for the program wins record (19). David Rees pitched a clean ninth, striking out one to pick up the save.
Ben Farina (Waterford, Conn.), Brian Monack (Branford, Conn.), Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.), Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.), Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.), Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) and Mike Bartlett (Milford, Conn.) had one hit apiece for the Bobcats.
Jon Lucas led the Seahawks with a 2-for-3 effort, including a two-run home run and an RBI double. Brian Martutartus added a 3-for-5 outing at the plate for Wagner.
The Bobcats got on the board first when Poletsky delivered Amanti with a first-inning single through the middle. Amanti reached with a lead-off single, stole second and scored on the Poletsky come-backer.
The Seahawks countered in the fourth, when Lucas' opposite-field drive carried over the left-field wall for a two-run home run. The lead extended to 6-1 when Wagner scored four runs in the fifth. A lead-off walk from Damian Csakai, followed by three straight singles from Martutartus, Vin Avella and Seth Boyd all came around to score for the Seahawks. The first scored on Avella's single, while Boyd brought Martutartus to the plate. A Lucas sacrifice fly brought Avella in, before Boyd scored on a would-be inning-ending grounder that resulted in an error.
Quinnipiac got an unearned run back in the seventh, as Bartlett doubled to the right-field gap, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored a passed ball to cut the deficit to 6-2. The Bobcats added another in the eighth as a Guerino sacrifice fly plated Monack, but they'd draw no closer.
The four-game series continues with a double-header tomorrow at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The first of two seven-inning games is scheduled to begin at noon.
