WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Quinnipiac baseball team lost to Hartford, 10-4, in a non-conference match-up played at Fiondella Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 6-24 overall while Hartford improves to 7-20.
Ben Farina (Waterford, Conn.) was 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored while Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) was 2-for-3 as he builds up his hitting streak. Guerino saw his second eight-game hitting streak of the season, good for the team- and season-high, end on Saturday in the first game of the Bobcats' doubleheader against Long Island.
Ryan Ullrich (Orange, Conn.) had a hand in two Quinnipiac runs in the fifth inning as he drove in Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) with the first run of the game before scoring from second on an error by the Hawks' catcher. Migani started the inning with a double before crossing the plate.
In the eighth, Mickey Amanti (Waterford, Conn.) reached on an error to lead-off the inning before moving to second Farina's third hit of the day. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch before a Brian Monack (Branford, Conn.) ground ball drove in Amanti. Farina scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) for the Bobcats fourth run.
George Dummar (Branford, Conn.) took the loss to drop to 0-2 on the season after an eight-run third inning knocked the freshman starter from the game. Seven of the eight runs were earned, and came on eight hits and three walks over 2 1/3. Spencer Kane (Wolcott, Conn.) came on in relief, having not given up a run in his last two outings, with his last appearance on Mar. 21. Kane was hit for two runs on three hits, while also issuing two walks, over two innings picked.
Neil Mammele (Madison, Conn.) pitched a 1 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless baseball while walking two batters. Tim O'Sullivan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) struck out three over 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball before Dan McGrath (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) pitched an inning of perfect baseball to end the game.
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, April 21 when they host New Haven County foe Yale University at 3 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats close-out the week in New Britain, Conn. with a four-game series against Central Connecticut State. Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut will play a nine-inning game on Friday, April 23 at 3 p.m. followed by a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday, April 24 at 12 p.m. and a nine-inning game on Sunday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
