The Quinnipiac University baseball team will head to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Fairfield University on Thursday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Baseball Field. Quinnipiac is 0-9 overall while Fairfield is currently 5-4.
Ben Farina (Waterford, Conn.) finished Quinnipiac's season-opening trip to North Carolina and Virginia as the team's hit-leader. The junior outfielder batted a team-high .361 (13-36) while leading the team in hits (13), runs scored (4) and doubles (2). Farina was one of four players to reach double-digits in hits through Quinnipiac's first nine games. Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) and Monack each tallied 11 hits, while Monack blasted a homerun in his first at-bat of the season and drove in a team-high six runs. Poletsky was tied for the team-lead with four runs after nine games. Freshman Ray Buckley (Fairfield, Conn.) kicked-off his collegiate career with three hits in his first 10 at-bats, while also driving in three runs.
On the mound, Neil Mammele held the opposition without an earned run in two appearances while freshman Derek Lamacchia has scattered five hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched, while giving up three runs (two earned), in three appearances for a 2.70 earned-run average. Classmate Spencer Kane has also appeared in three games, posting a 3.60 ERA in five innings of work.
Anthony Hajjar leads Fairfield with a .438 average with 14 hits in 32 at-bats. Jason Rago leads Fairfield with 10 runs while hitting .333. Marco Garamella leads the Stags with eight RBI.
Quinnipiac is back in action this weekend for a two-game series against College of Holy Cross on Saturday, March 20 in Worcester, Mass. 12 p.m. and on Sunday, March 21 at 12 p.m. in Hamden, Conn. for the Bobcats home-opener.
