Baseball Finishes Southern Trip With 10-0 Loss To William & Mary
Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to William & Mary,
10-0, in the final game of their 2010 southern trip. The Bobcats
opened the season at 0-9 and return home searching for their first
win of the season. William & Mary improves to 9-5. The Bobcats
also resumed a suspended game from Friday afternoon. They lost that
game as well, 10-3.
Ben Farina (Waterford, Conn.) was 2-for-4 for the Bobcats, who
managed just four hits in the game. Brian Monack (Branford, Conn.)
took the loss for Quinnipiac after allowing eight runs on four hits
over four innings pitched. Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) and Mickey
Amanti (Waterford, Conn.) each collected a hit for the Bobcats in
Farina finishes the season-opening trip to North Carolina and
Virgina as the team's hit-leader. The junior outfielder batted a
team-high .361 (13-36) while leading the team in hits (13), runs
scored (4) and doubles (2). Farina was one of four players to reach
double-digits in hits through Quinnipiac's first nine games. Joe
Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) and Monack each tallied 11 hits, while
Monack blasted a homerun in his first at-bat of the season and
drove in a team-high six runs. Poletsky was tied for the team-lead
with four runs after nine games. Freshman Ray Buckley (Fairfield,
Conn.) kicked-off his collegiate career with three hits in his
first 10 at-bats, while also driving in three runs.
On the mound, Neil Mammele held the opposition without an earned
run in two appearances while freshman Derek Lamacchia has scattered
five hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched, while giving up three runs (two
earned), in three appearances for a 2.70 earned-run average.
Classmate Spencer Kane has also appeared in three games, posting a
3.60 ERA in five innings of work.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Thursday, March 18 when they
travel to Farfield, Conn. to take on Farifield University in a
non-conference, intra-state match-up at Fairfield's Alumni Baseball
Field at 3:30 p.m. The Bobcats then travel to Worcester, Mass. on
Saturday, March 20 to take on Holy Cross before hosting the
Crusaders on Sunday, March 21 in the Bobcats' home-opener.
