Position: Associate Athletic Director/Intramurals

Michael Medina is in his seventh year at Quinnipiac. After serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Intramurals for the past six years, Medina was promoted to Associate Atheltic Director in 2011. Under Medina’s direction, Quinnipiac intramurals has shown an increase in student participation with the introduction of new sports and increased student interaction.

A respected member of the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA), he was honored with the Horace Moody Award in 2009.  This award is given to a professional member for their outstanding commitment to student development.  He has served as the State Director for Connecticut and Rhode Island in Region I and was a Co-Chair of the 2010 NIRSA Region 1 Conference.  Currently, Medina has alumni working at Manhattan College, the University of Connecticut & Claremont McKenna College.

 Previously, he was a committee member in the Sports Officials Development Program for Flag Football, a national committee that focuses on improving training techniques for student officials. Members of this committee go to the Flag Football National Championships to evaluate student officials.  Medina arrived at Quinnipiac after previous stints at Northeastern University and the University of Maryland. During that time, he was a two-time All- American official in both flag football and basketball.

A certified high school & college official in basketball and baseball umpire, Medina also has an extensive journalism background. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland in 2002. While at Maryland, he called the action for the 2002 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship between the Terrapins and Indiana on radio for WMUC.

He also earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northeastern in 2004 and an MBA from Quinnipiac in 2010.
