Bobcats Madness Draws Record Crowd Of Over 3,100 At TD Bank Sports Center
Quinnipiac University's 17th Annual Bobcats Madness drew the largest crowd in the event's history as 3,100 Quinnipiac students, families, friends and fans attended one of the most popular annual events at QU.
The night began at 7 p.m. with the introduction of Quinnipiac's Spirit Groups - Quinnipiac Pep Band, Sideline Cheerleading, Step to Perfection, Dance Company, Dance Fusion, Kickline as well as the QU Spirit Group. Student Government Assocation President Ben Cloutier addressed his fellow students and their parents before President John Lahey addressed the capacity crowd of students, parents, student-athletes, summer campers and fans.
Bobcats Madness also featured two HUGE milestones with Boomer the Bobcats 10th Birthday, as well as the 500,000th fan to enter the TD Bank Sports Center since opening in January 27, 2007.
Following the national anthem by the Quinnipiac Pep Band, the QU Spirit Group led the crowd with QU cheers and the QU Fight Song sing-a-long.
Senior associate athletic director Billy Mecca was then introduced before inviting all the Quinnipiac Summer Camp campers, counselors and Quinnipiac's student-athletes to the floor to dance with Mecca in what has emerged as a yearly tradition.
Quinnipiac's fall, winter and spring varsity teams were also recognized and introduced to the crowd before several performances from all of Quinnipiac's Spirit Groups.
After the 2012-13 men's and women's basketball teams were introduced, a series of contests were held to showcase this season's student-athletes. The contests included a CO-ED basketball shooting contest, a women's basketball 3-point shooting contest and a men's basketball dunk contest, which were all hosted by Billy Mecca.
A surprise addition to Bobcats Madness was the arrival of the "Zooperstars", who entertained the capacity crowd with two fun skits that had all laughing and smiling.
The night concluded with the "Grand Finale" as all of Quinnipiac's spirit groups and the men's and women's basketball teams performed together.
