Bobcats' women's basketball senior forward Samantha Guastella (Red Bank, New Jersey) was named the Quinnipiac December Female Athlete of the Month, which was announced on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.
Samantha Guastella averaged a team-leading 14.4 points per game to go along with 5.9 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals for a Bobcat team that went 6-1 in seven December games. Guastella shot the lights out from deep as she posted a 43.4 three-point shooting percentage (23-for-53) in seven games throughout December. She earned her first career MAAC Player of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week honor while also being named to the Hawk Classic All-Tournament Team. Guastella stands as the only player in the nation to rank in the NCAA Div. I Top 100 list for both blocked shots and three-point field goals per game. Two big outings highlighted her month as the first came at home on Dec. 5 against Siena as she scored a career-high 28 points, tying the program record with six made three-point field goals in the process. Guastella won her first career Player of the Week award on the laurels of her monster Dec. 15 game at home as she tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks, four assists and four steals against Albany. Matching up with one of the powerhouses in the region, Guastella racked up her 8th career double-double while also matching her career-high in blocks and steals in the victory.
