Women’s Basketball and Ice Hockey Teams Participate in Fuel 60 Event at BearPath Elementary School

HAMDEN, Conn. – Members of the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball and women’s ice hockey teams recently enjoyed a trip to Bear Path Elementary School as part of QU's Positive Play Initiative - a program that is designed to heighten community service activity by Quinnipiac's student-athletes, coaches and staff. Several Bobcats partook in Fuel 60, a national program aimed towards improving healthy eating and physical activity.

Several members of each program took part in entertaining games throughout the day including basketball, soccer, and kickball and then even had some fun on the playground as well. The program promotes kids to be active and to get outside for at least 60 minutes per day.

Fuel Up to Play 60 was launched by National Dairy Council® (NDC) and the National Football League (NFL). The U.S. Department of Agriculture has joined the effort to provide youth with concrete opportunities to improve healthy eating and physical activity. The program extends the NFL's commitment to making the next generation of youth the most active and healthy by tapping the power of its teams, players and NFL PLAY 60 programming to add recognition and value for students. Fuel Up to Play 60 capitalizes on NDC's trusted relationships with schools through decades of supplying science-based nutrition information and education materials.

The afternoon was a perfect opportunity for Quinnipiac student-athletes to chip in on Quinnipiac Athletics' Positive Play initiative. Quinnipiac is dedicated to the promotion and development of service, service learning, experiential learning, and civic engagement programs and initiatives that involve students in the local community and challenge them to critically examine the role their service plays in cultivating personal development and social change.
