Losing
is never an easy thing to swallow. We are very disappointed about the outcome
of today's game, and even more saddened that our season has come to an end. For
some, it was their first NEC experience; for others it was the last and saying
goodbye to our seniors is the hardest part of all.
We
are extremely thankful for the support we have received from our coaches, our
teammates, and our biggest fans - our parents and families. We are so fortunate
to have them support us by travelling great distances to cheer us on, or
knowing they are following us through the website's podcasts and write-ups. Our
support system here at Quinnipiac is unique. It has been there with us through
all the wins, losses, and even difficult times.
After
the game we had a special opportunity to share dinner with our families and
teammates. Some laughed, some cried and others reminisced about our favorite QU
Field Hockey moments from this season. As we head back to the Q, it's eerie to
think that tonight we will not be setting our alarms for tomorrow morning's
practice. You would think that we would be happy to have some free time on our
hands, but this is what we live for.
Thanks
to Quinnipiac for giving us the opportunity to blog. We hope we can keep on
bloggin' in our future seasons.
It's
been real,

Just Grillin'
"To
get something you never had, you have to do something you never did."
~Unknown
It took some time, but we finally got reacquainted with
field turf. Dragging, sweeping and just bedazzlement in general is definitely
more challenging on this type of surface. However, today’s practice will
benefit us in tomorrow’s game AND it made us realize how grateful we are for
our water-based astro turf field back at Quinnipiac.
While the Goldfish and Tasty Cakes were delicious, the
team craved a more substantial meal. So Dan, our chauffeur and trusted
bodyguard, drove us to the Macaroni Grill for lunch. After lunch we headed
straight to the hotel because we ONLY had three hours to get ready for the
awards banquet. We needed adequate time to exchange our kilts and socks for
skirts and stockings. As previously predicted, we were the prettiest team at
the banquet!
We concluded our wonderful evening with a team meeting in
our captain’s hotel room. We discussed our goals and objectives for tomorrow’s
game, as well as the necessary tactics we need to adjust since our last
performance against the Lady Eagles. With ambitions high, we all went back to
our own rooms to visualize and prepare for tomorrow’s game in our own unique
ways.
The butterflies are turning in our stomachs with
anticipation. We can’t wait to hop out of bed and turn our swag on tomorrow.
We’ll leave you with this; 100 Players, 4 Teams, 1 Title…
WHO will make History?

Part 3 - Nov. 5, 2009
On The Bus
We
are currently en route to Rider University for our last practice before the
semi-final game. To our pleasant surprise we were greeted by the Cadillac
Escalade of Dattco buses. Luxurious reclining leather seats, flat screen LCD
televisions convenient for watching Anchorman , refrigerators stocked with
Gatorade, two restaurant style booths, and complete with hardwood flooring.
Once
we got settled in our futuristic Dattco DeLorean, Coach Kohli presented us with
the first part of our pre-game speech; trust. It is the trust that we have
built with each other, our coaches, and our trainers that has gotten us this
far. Can trust win us a championship?
As
we pondered the thought, we each took the time while on the Garden State
Parkway to write our team and individual goals for tomorrow's game. Coach Kohli
handed out disposable cameras for each of us to take pictures illustrating what
or whom we find trustworthy. Giving 24 girls free range of a camera...talk about
trustworthy.
All
the excitement and nerves of today are overwhelming. Time to focus on practice
and getting readjusted to the style of play on field turf. Have to think
simple: loop, swoop and pull. If the bus is this nice, we wonder what the hotel
will be like... to be continued...
Stay
classy Bobcats!

Part 2 - Nov. 4, 2009 Last Day On Campus
To quote the Rabbit from “Alice and Wonderland”, “Oh my
ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!”
It’s T–minus Two days until the championships and boy
have we been busy!
A few of us went out shopping last night for the
perfect “causal/neat” attire as outlined in the NEC manual. However, the
standard for our team is nothing less than, “NICE, NICE, NICE.” Therefore, you
can bet your bottom dollar we will be the prettiest team at the NEC banquet!
Our hard work has gotten us thus far but we can’t stop
now, and that also applies to the classroom. Unfortunately we will be missing
classes Thursday and Friday, so we have been spending a lot of time with Arnold
(for those of you who don’t know, we are referring to the Arnold Bernard
Library). As a team, our studies are top priority, so handing in our work for
the week, before we head to New Jersey, is our main concern. Hey, you don’t get
called an All-Academic squad for nothing!
Our practice was hard and intense today. The corner
team escaped conditioning due to good performance. Even Coach Kohli had a sick
shot today! (We assured her we’d blog about it later… that new knee brace suits
her well. we wonder where she got the hardware…)
Tonight is crunch time. After our bags are packed and
we settle in for the night, we will dream of field hockey sticks and NON-dimple
balls dancing in our heads… TO THE ‘SHIP!
The next time we speak we will be in Lawrenceville,
NJ.
Till then,
Bernie Mac (Bonnie Shea '10 & MacKenzie Liptak '10)
Part 1 - Nov. 3, 2009 Good Morning Quinnipiac Nation!
"It's a great day to be a Bobcat," as Mr. Longacre would say.
This is Bonnie Shea and MacKenzie Liptak, or as Coach Kohli likes to call us, Bernie Mac. We will be blogging on behalf of our field hockey team as we hit the road to Lawrenceville, New Jersey for our conference tournament. We are 3 days away from the Northeast Conference Championships and couldn't be more psyched!
Since today is our day off, after two big wins this weekend, we're taking this time to recharge our batteries, physically and mentally. It's also a good time for us to ice our calves from all that strenuous back peddling we did during yesterday's practice, thanks to Coach Torino. Our motto is: "Your back peddle should be as fast as your sprint!"
Also, to prepare for the big dance, we're doing what we do best: eating!
The field hockey team has no problem loading up on carbs in order to store some much-needed energy for this weekend. A few of us went to grab some grub after Monday's practice. Our dinner conversation revolved around field hockey as we are filled with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming game against Lock Haven.
...And of course we've saved plenty of room for pie!
Signing out,
Bernie Mac (Bonnie Shea '10 & MacKenzie Liptak '10)
