HAMDEN,
Conn. – Quinnipiac softball senior Katie Allendorfer (Glenside, Pa.) and baseball
sophomore Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) were named the Quinnipiac Athletes of
the Month for May. Allendorfer led the softball team to the Northeast
Conference Tournament while Migani was the Bobcats’ top offensive threat down
the stretch.
For
the month, Allendorfer led the Bobcats with a .364 average across eight games
for the month. Allendorfer started every game behind the plate, and did not
commit and error in 42 chances while handing the catching duties. In addition,
Allendorfer reached base safely in all eight games, while scoring in four of
them. Allendorfer was 1-for-3 with a run scored against Central Connecticut on
May 1, before posting a 3-for-4 showing in the first game of a doubleheader
against Fairleigh Dickinson on May 8. She also had a RBI and a runs scored in
the game, before going 1-for-3 with a run scored in the second half of the twin
bill. In the Northeast Conference Tournament, Allendorfer was one of just four
players to record multiple-hits in the tournament, going 1-for-2 in the first
game of the playoffs before going 2-for-2 with a double, while also reaching on
a walk in the Bobcats’ final game of the season. For the year, Allendorfer
batted .303 (43-142) in 52 games played. She led the Bobcats with six doubles,
three homeruns and 26 runs-batted in. She also drew a team-high 19 walks, while
slugging .408 and carrying a .386 on-base percentage.
Migani
batted a team-high .386 (22-57) for the month, leading Quinnipiac in hits, homeruns
(3), runs-batted-in (15) and slugging percentage (.614), while he also posted a
.429 on-base percentage with four doubles and 10 runs scored in 16 games
played. Migani recorded a hit in 15 of the 16 games he played in for the month,
including the last nine of the season. He had multiple hits in four of the 16
games, and drove in multiple runs in four. In a doubleheader against Monmouth
on May 1, Migani was 3-for-7 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored.
Against Fairleigh Dickinson, Migani was 3-for-4 with three RBI in the first
game, before following up with a three-run homer in the second game. He was
2-for-2 with three runs scored in the next game as well. In his last six games
of the month, Migani recorded two hits in three of them, while driving in four
runs over the stretch. Against Wagner on May 21, Migani became the third
sophomore in Quinnipiac Division I history, joining current assistant coach Tim
Binkoski and teammate Ben Farina, to reach the 100-hit mark in their second
season. For the year, Migani batted .307 (51-166) with five home runs, 31 RBI,
10 doubles and 27 runs scored.
For
the women, women’s outdoor track athlete Lindsay Pierret (Morristown, N.J.) was
also nominated for the athlete of the month, while men’s tennis senior John
Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) and men’s lacrosse senior Alex DeAlmeida (Point
Pleasant, N.J.) were also nominated.
