The
Quinnipiac University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring
their 3rd Annual T-Shirt fundraiser. All proceeds for this year's event,
The 2010 BE GREAT Challenge will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of New
Haven. The fundraiser will culminate with a presentation at the
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey game against Brown on February 26, at the TD Bank
Sports Center.
The
yellow and gold tye-dye t-shirts have been selling throughout this week leading
up to the game. The t-shirts are $15 and will also be sold at the game.
This year's co-chairs of the event are Caitlyn Armstrong '12and Theresa
Kaminsky '12 from the women's competitive cheer team. SAAC's co-chair, women's
softball senior Emily Bellush '10 has provided valuable leadership as the
committee's veteran t-shirt fundraiser. On hand for the official "big
check" presentation, representing the Boys and Girls Club, is Dewar Wilson, a
program supervisor at the Club.
Quinnipiac's
SAAC is comprised of team representatives from the athletics department's 19
intercollegiate sports. It mission is to provide a communications link
between the student-athlete population and the Department of Athletics.
encourage communication and unity among and between student-athletes and
teams, increase awareness of athletic programs on campus and in the
community through projects, and design and implement programs which will
encourage academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility and
awareness throughout Quinnipiac University. Tonight's event is one of
many activities sponsored by SAAC throughout the academic year.
The
Boys & Girls Club of New Haven, the second oldest Club in the nation,
exists to provide educational and enrichment programs for children and
families, especially those from low-income households. We continue to address
the need for quality out-of-school time activities and programs for children
and youth in our community. The Boys & Girls Club of New Haven supports families
in nurturing children and youth and assisting them in mastering basic academic
skills, essential life skills, health and wellness information, and developing
self-esteem.
