NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Members of the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team made a special delivery to the children in the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Wednesday, March 31. The Bobcats dropped off close to 20 plastic bags full of stuffed animals to the children's cancer center.

The Bobcats went door-to-door in the pediatric oncology wing handing out teddy bears and stuffed animals of all shapes and sizes to the hospitals patients. Juniors Pat McGann, Sean Coughlin and Zach Hansen were on hand, as well as freshmen Loren Barron, Reese Rolheiser and Bobby Tyson.

"It's always special to come down here and spend some time with the kids," Quinnipiac junior Pat McGann said. "This is my second trip here, and you can tell it means a lot to the kids. It means a lot to all of us too. We feel a need to give back to those less fortunate than us and we're just happy to be here."

The stuffed animals were collected after Quinnipiac's annual "Teddy Bear Toss", facilitated in conjunction with the Bobcats' ECAC Hockey match-up against Elm City rival Yale University. This year's game took place on Saturday, Feb. 27.

"Having the [Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey] team visit the kids is wonderful," Child Life Specialist Alicia Sevilla said. "It gives the children high spirits and really makes their stay easier."

The visit was part of Quinnipiac Athletics "Positive Play" initiative which encourages community involvement by Quinnipiac's student-athletes and coaches.
