The Quinnipiac
University baseball will travel to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, March 20 for a
non-conference match-up against the College of Holy Cross at 2 p.m. at Fitton
Field. The Bobcats are then scheduled to host the Crusaders on Sunday, March 21
for their home-opener at Quinnipiac Baseball Field at 12 p.m. Quinnipiac is
currently 0-10 while Holy Cross is 2-7 on the season.
Benny And The Jets
Ben Farina is
hitting at a team-high .400 (16-40) average, while also leading the Bobcats in
hits (16), doubles (2) and runs scored (5). for the year. Farina also homered against
Fairfield on Thursday for his first of the season and 10th of his career.
Moving Up The Ladder
Farina is currently the only
Bobcat with 100 career hits, while his 119 rank 36th all-time at Quinnipiac and
23rd at the Division I level.
Go 'Head Mick
Mickey Amanti currently sits on 91 career hits, leaving him nine from becoming
the 52nd player in Quinnipiac history to reach the 100-hit mark.
Gutsy Performance Wasted
Mike Oskandy threw nine solid innings for the Bobcats against Fairfield. The
fifth-year starter gave up two runs - only one earned - on five hits while striking
out six over nine innings.
Picking Up Where The Other Guy Left Off
Sophomore catcher Kyle Nisson, who entered this season having caught a handful
of innings over seven appearancs as a freshman, has picked up where graduated
back-stop Mike Marmo left off. Nisson is second on the team with a .393 (11-29)
average in nine games played and has driven in four runs in 30 plate
appearances.
Lefty-Lefty Nullified
Brian Monack and Gabe Guerino, the only every-day lefties in the Bobcats'
lineup, are hitting a combined .389 (7-18) against lefthanded pitching this
year. As a team, the Bobcats are hitting at a .333 clip with 23 hits in 69
at-bats against southpaws.
Ducks On The Pond
With runners on base, Kyle Nisson leads the team with a .538 (7-13) average.
Doing His Job
Brian Monack is hitting at a team-high .455 (5-11) average with runners in
scoring position.
Doing It With Two
Of Quinnipiac's 28 runs-batted-in, 15 have come with two outs. As a team,
Quinnipiac is hitting .304 (38-125) with two outs, while Kyle Nisson has
recorded a hit in 5-of-8 at-bats in that situation.
