HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team jumped to the top spot in USCHO.com's PairWise Rankings (PWR) following a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory against No. 10 University of Massachusetts in front of sell-out crowd of 3,171 at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats are currently on a national-best eight-game unbeaten streak and hold the nations top winning percentage at 12-1-0 (.923).
The PairWise Rankings is the system used by the NCAA to
select and seed teams for the NCAA Tournament. For the purposes of NCAA
eligibility, a team's record is based only on games against other Division I
hockey schools which are eligible for the NCAA Tournament. A full explanation of
the PairWise Rankings and the NCAA Tournament selection process can be found by

Quinnipiac continued its winning streak this week with
wins against Princeton, 5-1 on Nov. 25, and UMass on Saturday. The Bobcats have
not scored fewer than three goals in any game this season while totaling five
goals in seven of their 13 games, including three of their last four games. The
Bobcats' 56 goals are the most in NCAA Division I hockey, while their 4.31
goals per game rank second as they are one of three teams in the nation
averaging four goals per game. In addition, Quinnipiac extended their unbeaten
streak when leading after the second period to 42 games with a record of 39-0-3
dating back to the 2007-08 season.
A big part of the Bobcats' early season success is the
outstanding play of sophomore goalie Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.). Clarke is
8-0-0, with seven consecutive victories, and is the only goalie in the nation
with a 1.000 winning percentage. In addition, the sophomore netminders 259
saves on 278 shots on goal give him a .932 save percentage, good for seventh
nationally. In addition, senior Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) leads Quinnipiac with
eight goals and 11 assists for a team-high 19 points while ranking among the
top 20 scorers in the country. Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.) also checks in with
nine goals and nine assists for 18 points.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Dec. 4 when they
travel to Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. to take on No. 11 Yale University in
an ECAC Hockey match-up set for a 7 p.m. start. The Bobcats then head to
Providence, R.I. on Saturday, Dec. 5 to take on Brown University at Meehan
Auditorium at 7 p.m.
