HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac head men and women’s tennis coach Michael Quitko has announced the signing of Garrett Lane (Reading, Mass.), a four-star recruit, to a National Letter of Intent. Lane, who currently ranks second on the tennisrecruiting.net list of the top seniors/grads in New England, will join the Bobcats for the 2008-09 academic year.
“I’m excited about having Garrett join our program next year because of his skill and abilities to think out points,” said Quitko. “I think Garrett has the potential to really shine at Quinnipiac, and help lead us toward some titles.”
Lane, an attacking left-handed player, also ranks as the top senior in Massachusetts and No. 122 in the country among seniors/grads, according to tennisrecruiting.net. The USTA has ranked Lane as highly as No. 4 in New England and currently ranks him No. 196 in the combined national rankings among players age 18 and under. He’s ranked as highly as No. 7 in New England by the USTA in doubles.
A member of The Pingree School’s boys’ tennis team, Lane has been a league all-star every year of his career. He’s been league MVP for the past two years, as well as a member of the Boston Globe and Salem News All-Scholastic teams. He was also Massachusetts North Shore Player of the Year last season. Lane also ran cross country all four years of high school.
