Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior co-captain Matthew Peca (Petawawa, Ontario) was named Quinnipiac's January Male Athlete of the Month.
Peca's 12 points in the Bobcats eight games for the month of January led all Quinnipiac skaters, while his nine assists also led all ECAC Hockey players. Peca was also one of two players in ECAC Hockey to register a point in seven of his team's eight games played. In four ECAC Hockey games in the month, Peca led Quinnipiac to a 3-0-1 record with two goals and five assists.
Peca opened the month with a goal in a 3-2 loss at St. Cloud State before picking up two assists in a 4-1 against the Huskies on the following night. Peca registered his second straight multiple-point game with a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win against Renssealer. He wrapped up the month with a four-game point streak, totaling a goal and five assists - including a three-point night against Brown on Jan. 30 and an assist in Quinnipiac's 2-2 tie at Yale.
For the year, Peca leads Quinnipiac with 21 assists, while also scoring five more goals for 26 points. For his career, he became just the fourth player in Quinnipiac history to reach 90 career assists and currently sits at 92 for his career.
