Basketball Sweep! Ike Azotam and Brittany McQuain Named Quinnipiac December Athletes of the Month
HAMDEN, Conn. – Bobcats' men’s basketball senior Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) and women’s basketball senior Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) have been named the Quinnipiac December Athletes of the Month, which was announced on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.
Ike Azotam was dominant in the post as the 6-7 power forward averaged 17.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Azotam connected on over 50 percent of his field goal attempts and shot nearly 70 percent from the free-throw line. He recorded a double-double in half of the team's games and scored at least 14 points in each outing as well. In addition, he had limited turnovers while averaging a team best 35 minutes per contest.
Azotam's month was highlighted by a 24-point outburst at Rider University. He was 9-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, while adding seven rebounds and two assists to complete his stat line. It was the 13th time in his career that he scored 20 points in a game. With his seven rebounds, Azotam also became the sixth QU player in program history to record 1,000 points and 800 rebounds in a career.
A native of Boston, Mass., Azotam continued his stellar play into January by posting huge numbers against Monmouth and Iona. He had 24 points and 16 rebounds against the Hawks and 18 points and 15 rebounds against the Gaels. He leads the MAAC in rebounding at 11 rebounds per game, a statistic that has him tied for sixth in the nation. He also leads the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game, which has him ranked seventh in the MAAC.

Brittany McQuain led the Bobcats to four wins throughout the month of December. She averaged 8.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.3 assists and 1.6 blocks per game, four of which were among the conference leaders for the month. McQuain was named the MAAC Player of the Week on December 2nd, after averaging 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games for the Bobcats. This included a career performance in her Missouri homecoming against Missouri State. McQuain registered at least nine rebounds and tallied double digits in points in four of the seven games. In the game against Canisius, McQuain became the fifth player in Quinnipiac history and third in Division I history to tally at least 1,000 points and 900 rebounds.
McQuain is currently 64 rebounds shy of 1,000 career rebounds. She has 1,164 career points which is 40 points behind Queenie Edwards ’95 for 17th place on the all-time list. Once she reaches 17th place, she will only need 42 points to move as high as 13th place on Quinnipiac’s all-time scoring list.
