Borja Angoitia and Natalia Grodzki Named Quinnipiac's September Athletes of the Month
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac’s men’s soccer junior Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) and women’s soccer sophomore Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett, Ill.) have been named Quinnipiac’s Men’s and Women’s September Athletes of the Month.
Nearly a unanimous decision, Angoitia won the Quinnipiac Male Athlete of the Month award after leading the Bobcats to two wins and three ties through the month of September, a stretch that included three shutouts and a 0.91 goals against average. He posted 35 saves in seven games for an outstanding .833 save percentage. The highlight of his month came in a 0-0 draw against an undefeated Army squad in which he posted a season-high of 10 saves in the match. Angoitia was also instrumental in a 1-0 win at Yale, marking the first QU win against the Bulldogs in program history. He was named MAAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week twice.
Angoitia continues to climb upwards in Quinnipiac's all-time record books with his performances. Angoitia's nine shutouts has him in sole possession of second place all-time in the category, and his 18 career wins are good enough for third all-time in that category. He is also fourth all-time in goals against average (1.35).
Also nominated: Men’s Cross Country – Brendan Copley
After an impressive month of September, Grodzki has been named Quinnipiac’s Female Athlete of the Month. In seven games, Grodzki played 656 minutes allowing just six goals and collecting .082 goals against average. She made 29 saves on the month which was good for a .829 save percentage. She went 2-3-2 in the month overall and 2-0-1 in the MAAC. She had 2.5 shutouts and helped lead the Bobcats to the top of the MAAC table heading into October. On September 30, she was also named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Grodzki has been stellar for the Bobcats and ranks amongst the conference leaders in two prominent categories. Grodzki is fourth in the league in shutouts (2.5) and one of four goalkeepers with two wins in conference play.
